What is an OCT scan?

We have had an OCT at Cooper & Leatherbarrow since 2011. The wealth of experience from using this equipment in practice ensures that you receive the very best treatment and advice.

An OCT scan allows our optometrists to see both the back of your eye and a three dimensional image to look beneath the surface of the retina.

The machine’s software can automatically detect subtle changes in the retina meaning that over time we can build up a picture of not just your eye health today, but how your eyes are changing over time. This gives an invaluable ongoing record of the health and condition of your eyes.

We can include this state of the art diagnostic tool as part of your eye examination. There is an additional charge for the OCT scan, but the benefits are obvious.

What does OCT Scan check for?

A 3D OCT screening can diagnose potentially serious conditions that can affect your eyesight and your overall well-being.

Common conditions identified through regular OCT screening include:

  • Age-related macular degeneration

  • Diabetes

  • Glaucoma

  • Macular holes

  • Vitreous detachments.
