What causes dry eye syndrome?

Dry eyes occur when the eyes either don’t make enough tears, or the quality of the tears produced is reduced, which means the tears can evaporate rapidly from the surface of the eye, allowing the eye to dry.

 

Dry eye syndrome is experienced when our eyes do not make enough tears or the quality of our tears is poor. This means our tears evaporate from the surface of the eye leaving them red and feeling sore, gritty, tired, blurred vision and excessive watering.

Alleviate your discomfort

There is no cure for dry eye syndrome, however, there are several treatments and measures we can recommend that will bring you relief from your symptoms. 

 

During your appointment with us, we will diagnose and ascertain the underlying cause of your dry eyes then present the best option for you. Treatments can range from lubricants in the form of gels or drops to eyelid margin hygiene techniques.
